RSOL is responsible for civil litigation and provides legal support to various U.S. Department of Labor agencies in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Arkansas. RSOL represents the Secretary of Labor in the enforcement of more than 180 laws in U.S. district courts and administrative judges in the Five State Region. In addition, the RSOL provides general legal advice and support to the regional offices of the various agencies represented by the Office of Counsel, including the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), the Wages and Hours of Work Administration (Salary and Hourly), the Employee Benefits Security Administration (EBSA), the Mining Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) and the Office of Federal Contract Compliance Programs (OFCCP). This office participates in Texas Tech University`s full-time internship program during the academic year. These students are interviewed and accepted into the program at least eight months prior to the start date. Our office administers the fiduciary responsibility provisions of the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (“ERISA”) for retirees and workers who rely on ERISA plans for their retirement income and health benefits. The student`s educational experience is enhanced as he/she is introduced to the operation of a state law firm, becomes familiar with the practice of civil procedure in a government environment, and is exposed to the ministry`s various law enforcement programs. The student will attend weekly training seminars led by experienced lawyers covering the labor laws enforced by the department, as well as seminars on professional development and career enhancement. Trainees in the field of occupational safety and health are assigned various tasks in the areas of activity of the office. Representation mandates may include: Articling students in the Philadelphia Regional Office of the Attorney are also primarily involved in all stages of a case`s lifecycle in our firm and can anticipate work on legal analysis, discovery, witness preparation, legal briefings, and witness interviews. The Philadelphia Regional Solicitor`s Office is one of seven regional attorneys` offices serving the U.S. Department of Labor and its law enforcement agencies in the Mid-Atlantic region: Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and the District of Columbia.
The twenty lawyers in the regional attorney`s office have primary responsibility for representing the Secretary of Labor in most of the department`s civil cases before U.S. district courts and administrative judges. The Office of the Lawyer works with ministry agencies such as the Payroll and Hours of Work Department, Health and Safety Administration, Benefits Security Administration, Employment Standards Administration, Mining Safety and Health Department and others to enforce various worker protection laws. Application Process The Atlanta Regional Bar Office`s articling program provides law students with extensive litigation experience and exceptional insight into the world of employment law. Student articling exercises a variety of legal obligations under various statutes and are exposed to all stages of litigation. In addition to conducting research and writing briefs under the guidance and supervision of experienced litigators, articling students are able to evaluate cases compiled by investigators, participate in all aspects of discovery, negotiate settlements, prepare and participate in testimony, meet witness interviews or meetings with client organizations. attend court hearings or hearings, submit applications for visa certificates. analyze. and attend events with the national office and other regional offices. When is this internship?: Our firm usually has five summer articling students who have completed their second year at the Faculty of Law. Most importantly, they learn the process of applying civil litigation law at the procedural level. You will participate in all stages of litigation at the litigation level and learn from experienced lawyers. Lawyers in the Boston office provide general legal and litigation services to the Department of Labor throughout New England. Major litigation includes proceedings in federal district courts under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act and the Fair Labor Standards Act, as well as administrative proceedings under the Occupational Safety and Health Act and the Mine Safety Act. A legal intern from our firm gains hands-on legal experience assisting consultants and lawyers in the program with 1) legal research; 2) developing litigation records through written disclosures, including the preparation of investigative requests and responses and participation in investigation statements; (3) the preparation of substantive motions, pleadings, settlement agreements and other court documents; and 4) preparation for and participation in hearings/mediations. Most articling students create detailed legal notes. Some interns work on briefs, complaints and post-trial applications. The legal department selects approximately 50 summer specialization program articling students from more than 2,500 applications submitted each year. The legal department is perhaps the only public/public sector employer in the country to offer permanent employment to its second-year summer articling students based on their summer performance. In recent years, approximately half of our entry-level positions have been filled by alumni of our summer internship program.
The Legal Department offers our summer articling students weekly scholarships of $750 for our 9-week summer program. The office also provides accommodation alongside our summer program for our out-of-town summer interns. The objective of the articling student`s duties is to introduce the student to the operation of a state law firm, familiarize the student with the practice of civil procedure in a government environment, and expose the student to the ministry`s various law enforcement programs if the number of cases permits. The student`s work includes legal research and writing; design of discoveries; preparation of requests and responses to requests; Assist lawyers in preparing for trials; preparation of legal documents; document verification; review and summary of filing protocols; review of evidence for trial; and other commands, if any. Arlington interns work on issues that are the subject of active litigation or consideration. We handle cases from various client organizations involving health and safety issues, wage underpayments, pension compliance failures and other labour law provisions. We assess cases prior to litigation, advise and assist client agencies in conducting investigations and inspections, and actively participate in all stages of litigation.
