Grit Legal Camperdown
GRIT Legal cannot change what life puts in your way, but we can reduce your stress after a traumatic event. Most of our clients are not sure if they have a valid claim, and many are nervous about claiming compensation. That`s why we offer a free first appointment in cases of bodily injury to find out if you have a case worth investigating and/or pursuing. If we believe you have a valid claim, we will fight hard, fairly and fearlessly to obtain maximum compensation. This ensures that more people receive the support to which they are entitled. Our goal is to reduce the stress and financial burden of injury. We track your legal rights for you so you can focus on your rehabilitation and recovery. I intend to make the most of my new role to provide meaningful support to Victoria`s lawyers. Those who are ordinary, who are content to go about their daily legal business to help their clients, and those who come without frills, just like me. It is therefore not surprising that I intend to use my mandate on the Council to fight for LIV`s regional members. Being a country-based legal eagle involves special skills, and certainly not those you will learn during law school.
In my relatively short career as a lawyer so far, I`ve had clients affected by floods, droughts, and most importantly, the 2018 St. Patrick`s Day bushfires, some of which destroyed a working life in a matter of hours. Like too many other lawyers, I experienced this terrible feeling in the pit of my stomach as fires raged on one client`s farm, only for the wind to change and the fire front to turn into another client`s property. I have the privilege of bringing a small piece of regional Victoria to LIV`s boardroom. I grew up on a dairy farm in the small town of Camperdown in south-west Victoria, and my area is the heart of the dairy industry. I am grateful to my family and how growing up in the country has influenced me. It gave me the confidence to move within 3 hours of my family and friends to study law at 18. It made me a realist and a problem solver. And it gave me courage and stubbornness in spades – so much so that I managed to get elected to the LIV Council. Pass in Peace is issued by GRIT Legal.
In addition to our people-centred approach to end-of-life legal support, we leverage our passion and established legal experience to provide a range of other legal services. We have over 20 years of legal experience in assisting injured workers and survivors of transportation accidents, crimes and medical negligence to obtain maximum compensation. We can also help you if you lose a loved one in such circumstances, and we provide employment law advice on unfair dismissals and dismissals. GRIT Legal is here to help you when you need it most. You can learn more about our legal practice and contact us by clicking here. I am always impressed and challenged by the range of legal issues and the diversity of clients whose files end up on my desk. I understand how delicate conflicts of interest can be, the incredible trust placed in us by our loyal clientele and the juggling between seeing customers professionally and then meeting them in the pub. Ann Cunningham – is the founder of GRIT Legal. She has 20 years of legal experience fighting for Victorian rights. Ann has a history of taking cases for injured people who were nervous about coming forward, who were told that everything would be too difficult and that the obstacles would be too great. She takes charge of these files, she listens and she wins.
Ann faced many obstacles in her own life and developed her courage the hard way. Her father died when she was young due to illness and her 10-year-old brother died in a transportation accident. Now, Ann uses the law to help people when they need it most. We help injured workers (WorkCover) and survivors of transportation accidents (TAC), violent crime (VOCAT) and medical negligence get the maximum compensation they are entitled to. Unfortunately, the number of roads in Victoria remains high and workplace fatalities continue. We can also help you if you lose a loved one in such circumstances. We also provide a range of other legal services – including employment law advice (for unfair dismissals and dismissals), and we support the development of wills, powers of attorney and decision-makers for medical treatment through Pass In Peace, our unique opportunity to provide a people-centred approach to end-of-life legal support. Many of our clients come to us facing the stigma of making a claim and a legal system they don`t trust. We are here to address both of these issues.
We bring a human face to legal services. We listen to you as a person, focus on what you want most and make sure the law works to get compensation for you. We are here for all the victims of Victoria. These include victims of workplace accidents, mental health claims, medical negligence or motor vehicle accidents. Grit – the raw endurance, stamina and passion that keep a person going even if they encounter obstacles. We see sand in everyone who walks through our door, and we are committed to living up to it. We use our passion and deep legal experience to help injured workers and survivors of transportation accidents, crimes and medical negligence receive maximum compensation. We also offer a range of other legal services – including employment law advice (unfair dismissals, dismissals) and Pass In Peace, our unique opportunity to provide a people-centred approach to end-of-life legal support (including wills, powers of attorney and decision-makers` documentation for medical treatment). In 2019, Rebecca Alexander, Director and Counsel of SLM, was elected to the Council of the Law Institute of Victoria (Victoria`s highest body representing lawyers).
Her three-year term began in January 2020 and she intends to ensure that the interests of regional Victorians are adequately represented in the legal industry. GRIT Legal offers a caring and sensible approach to the law, backed by a proven track record of supporting injured people in Victoria for over 20 years. We focus on delivering results for the people we work with and reducing the stress injured people experience when dealing with insurers, work coverage and TACs. We try to minimize costs for the injured person instead of focusing on the profit of our business. Let`s focus on helping lawyers with evolving technologies. Let`s work with the State Revenue Office, Land Titles Office and PEXA to streamline settlement processes and coordinate their online platforms. Let`s demand better support from the courts when they engage us to use RedCrest and Citec to file courts. Let us demand that the courts be adequately staffed. Let`s organize the one-hour LIV seminars organized in the city by conference call to make them available to regional and suburban lawyers as well. Let`s publish more articles in the LIV Journal that support us in our daily practice. I am here today because in 2019 I was concerned that LIV had forgotten its country-based LIV members. I was stunned to learn that there was an Animal Welfare Working Group under the umbrella of LIV that was running an unbalanced event at our headquarters (with moderators from the RSPCA, Animal Justice Party and Animals Australia).
I was furious that no lawyer in the country had been consulted to prepare a bill or provide evidence for a parliamentary inquiry into animal activism and its impact on agriculture. I was disappointed with the way these issues were handled by the LIV when I and my colleagues from one country expressed our frustration. I highly recommend Jesse Long Esq. and the team at Legal Grit. I came to see him for a consultation and even after what looked like several dead ends, Jesse pushed to give me the representation I needed and see my case to the end. I couldn`t be happier if my result has committed the team for the first time and if the need arises, it certainly won`t be my last. After admission in 2012, I returned home to practice after being offered a position at SLM Law (formerly known as Sewells Larkins McCarthy) with offices in Camperdown, Colac, Cobden and Apollo Bay. After excellent mentors, I became Chief of Staff in January 2017. Special thanks to my colleagues at SLM Law for giving me this opportunity.
Below is a copy of Rebecca`s introductory address to the Council of the Law Institute of Victoria, delivered in February 2020. If you have been wrongfully dismissed or forced to dismiss, we can assist you in an unjustified dismissal action to reinstate you and/or obtain compensation. HomeNewsLIV Council Keynote Address – Rebecca Alexander February 13, 2020 Like many national law firms, our firm has a proud history of over 100 years of activity in the region. I am honoured to be trusted to move our firm forward and celebrate its history. More broadly, LIV can work harder to make a practical difference for all its members. If you are unable to work due to illness or injury, we can check with your pension fund whether you are entitled to total and permanent disability. I do not accept that the LIV takes a stand when it comes to polarizing political debates, whether on issues of left or right. There are many other organizations that politically active lawyers can join.
In our higher body, we must keep an eye on ordinary members who pay dues. If you have been injured as a driver, passenger, cyclist or pedestrian in a car accident in Victoria, we can help you get compensation for loss of earnings, medical expenses and lump sum compensation.
