DLSA organizes legal studies courses in various laws and legal assistance to oppressed people. DLSA is actively involved in the implementation of various programmes to promote legal jurisdiction, as provided for in the NALSA National Action Plan. DLSA has paralegal volunteers working in various fields. The DLSA and the Taluk Legal Services Committees (TLSCs) have a separate panel of lawyers for legal literacy courses, legal aid advisors for civil and criminal matters, and legal advisors who participate in legal aid clinics. DLSA and TLSC regularly run Lok Adalath every other Saturday. Also performs special adalaths to settle pre-trial cases and settle all kinds of composable cases in different courts. • Take appropriate measures to disseminate legal competence and awareness among people, especially in the weakest strata. • Conducts and promotes research in the field of legal services, paying particular attention to the need for such services among the poor. • Establish guidelines and principles for the provision of legal services to the public. The National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) is the central agency that provides free legal assistance to the poor and vulnerable and those in need. The objective of NALSA is to build a national network for the provision of free, competent and comprehensive legal services. The District Legal Services Authority was established under the Legal Services Authorities Act 1987 (in which the Amending Act 1994 (No.
59/1994) as amended) to provide free and competent legal aid to the weaker part of society, to ensure that opportunities for obtaining justice are not denied to any citizen on the basis of economic or other handicaps, and to organize lok adalats to ensure that the functioning of the legal system guarantees justice on the basis of equal opportunities. A person eligible for this program may contact or write to the Legal Services Authority at the state or taluk/subdivision level to obtain details about legal affairs or disputes or other legal matters covered by this program and submit a request for justice. If the case is accepted, the victim`s case will be heard before the court concerned, for which all costs, including the lawyer`s fees, will be borne by the authority. Cases can also be referred to Lok Adalats for faster justice. In both cases, the victim will receive justice free of charge.
