Boston Legal is an American comedy-drama film directed by David E. Kelley, produced for ABC in collaboration with 20th Century Fox Television. The series aired from October 3, 2004 to December 8, 2008. Alan, Denny and Brad represent Kelly Nolan (Heather Locklear), who is on trial for poisoning her husband. Tara Wilson is Shirley Schmidt`s vice president and is shocked to discover that the opposing lawyer is her former lover Malcolm Holmes (Rupert Everett); Garrett Wells and Sara Holt support Denise Bauer in a case where a Jewish man felt hurt when his Christian colleagues were holding Bible readings in the workplace. To make matters worse, Denise receives divorce papers. The episode begins with Denny and Alan already in need. They introduce Edward and Michael, two boys accused of murdering their abusive fathers. The prosecution holds all the cards and just as many witnesses in their favor. The brothers refuse to testify to temporary insanity and plead guilty to a crime they did not commit.
Even worse, the judge openly told Alan`s partner, “You were Denny Crane.” Alan sends his girlfriend outside, scolds the judge and says, “I was attracted to you. Not so much now. And that`s where the process begins. Alan is able to win several small victories with the first witnesses, and Denny Crane proves that he still has it when he effectively dismantles the prosecutor`s star witness, the boy`s therapist, arguing that if these boys are so smart, why did they tell everyone that they would commit a crime prematurely? But the case suddenly suffers a major setback when Alan receives a package with a used condom. Alan tests the DNA and discovers that it belongs to the boy`s mother and his favorite alibi, his dentist. Alan tries to use this development to suspect his mother, but prosecutors question the denist, only to discover that the mother intentionally tried to take over the case for her sons! The smokescreen undermines the credibility of the defense and calls for desperate action. Denny`s accused suddenly appears to accuse his brother of committing the crime, which leads to an explosive confrontation between Alan and Denny. Alan calls for a bad trial, but the judge is only too happy when he sees this explosion fall in his face! In the witness room, we learn the truth – everything is an act.
Alan`s witness does the same, and Denny also demands that his defendant`s brother lie in the same way. During the break, Denny is confronted with the particularly grim reality of losing and “surviving,” as he puts it. However, the verdict was set and the two boys were eventually found not guilty. Shirley is sued by Stanford University after refusing a $3 million donation, and she asks Alan to represent her – only to find him useless against an old flame and opposing lawyer, Lorraine Weller (Saffron Burrows); Alan`s problems are compounded by Judge Gloria Weldon`s desire to become pregnant with him; Denny is arrested for being charged, but he is even more angry when he learns that his nemesis, his main partner Carl Sack (John Larroquette), has moved to Boston to file a lawsuit. Katie Lloyd, a junior partner and recent Harvard graduate, hears her first case, a murder trial, with Jerry Espenson; Clarence gets into hot water because he participates in a dance competition as Clarice. Lorraine Weller (Saffron Burrows) is hired to work in litigation at the firm, attracting Alan and Denny. Joseph Washington`s trial begins, and Katie, Jerry, and Alan defend him; Judge Weldon is awaiting Alan`s decision on the birth of his baby. Denise finds herself in a difficult situation when a car accident case that she neglected for three years is on trial and she is not prepared. while Garrett is doing some research, he meets Cassie (Tamara Feldman), a young paralegal whose strange sexual tendencies hide a painful past; Denny learns that he must apologize to Lori or face a complaint of sexual harassment.
Alan takes Sara to dinner and do a “show”. After abducting a witness and physically assaulting a priest, Brad is tried and asks Denny and Shirley for help in saving him. Alan`s full hands have to do with his secretary`s financial difficulties when his credit card company charges ridiculous interest rates, which they have put into debt by $50,000. Boston Legal is a spin-off of the long-running series Kelley The Practice, which follows the exploits of former practice character Alan Shore (James Spader) at the law firm of Crane, Poole & Schmidt. Meanwhile, as if all this main plot wasn`t enough, a pipe-smoking Jerry, rude as always with his oral goal, meets a desperate woman who demands to sue a casino for the $80,000 in debt she has incurred. Eventually, she catches Jerry`s attention, who drops the pipe and picks up the case. He manages to recruit Clarence, but Shirley is not very happy that the duo is trying to pursue a casino. A casino lawyer meets her – and dismisses her as a joke – and literally believes that one of her friends forced her to do so.
Clarence`s nervousness and Jerry`s constant purr don`t help the cause. The two then get in touch with a friend of Alan`s, who is well connected to the casino scene – but she only speaks Russian. Shirley sits at the next meeting with the lawyer, who is dismissive and rude, even with Shirley`s presence. To distract Clarence`s facts, the lawyer turns around to leave, but in a scene straight out of Sergio Leone, Jerry pulls out a cigarette, returns to his hardened personality, and launches a rocket of information about the unfortunate lawyer who, after five minutes, faced with Jerry`s epic confidence, settles for a “final” offer of $225,000! Clarence and Jerry, frantically delighted, kiss and jump for joy, much to the chagrin of Paul, Brad and Claire`s strange looks outside. Brad asks Claire about Clarence, “Does he jump with you like that?” Hopefully (and probably) Denise will be back in top form next season, focusing on cases rather than personal issues within the firm. I miss their concluding statements. The next season may well be the last in which Denny, Shirley and Paul graciously say goodbye. But when Alan predicts a lost verdict, Denny concocts a plan to raise reasonable doubts about his guilt.

After questionable merits last time, Denny Crane proves he`s always done it, and the budding friendship between Clarence and Jerry finally shows a “next generation” that could perhaps last another season. The season was one of the successes and failures and more darkness than cheerfulness, but this episode alone renewed my faith in the series!
